Hi Paul, only found this info yesterday. He was mistranscribed on census but that is a good idea. Will give that a go. Thanks Hilary.

Hello Hilary Have you tried looking at the record on Scotlands People,some of the mistranscriptions(? spelling) on ancestry on my scottish ancestors make me smile. Not having a go mind must be hard .

I don't know if its any help,but when I was based up in Scotland in the navy,I remember a place called Linlithgow or Linlithgoe,I,ve just googled it and it's still there.Hope this helps. Paul

Yes, tried googling, like you got nowhere. Would be grateful for anything. He was a stonemason apparently in earlier life. On 1851 census it said Pauper, former quarrier. I know there were lots of mines etc. there in those days. Thanks, Hilary.

Have found my 3xgt. grandfather on 1851 census in Edinburgh, it says he was born in Bernins Blend, Linlithgowshire. Does anybody have any idea where it is please. Hilary.
