My MIL was married at St Bartholomew's Roby, but whether it was in the Liverpool Parish or not I really don't know. Roby is certainly a couple of miles outside the Liverpool City boundary, but nearer to Kirkby than Liverpool itself. St Chads was and still is the main parish church in Kirkby. Pre WW2 Kirkby was a small village but was extensively developed as an overspill / slum clearance new town and acquired a reputation of being rather rough.. Z Cars was based in Kirkby, but under another name, (Newtown?) from what I remember. |

Its St Barts in Roby or St Barts Liverpool central Parish of Liverpool is very misleading and Ive seen this laziness before...........its a general term.....should have a more specific area like Everton,West Derby,Fazakeley, etc.... Sounds like St Barts in Naylor Street /Scotland Road (which is smack bang in the middle of the city)closed in 1929...details/records will be in Liverpool record Office at the Central Library. There is a detailed map with the church index on the wall on Floor 4. |

Hi, I think you are talking about St Bartholomew's, which is in Huyton-with-Roby, just up the road from Roby station. Nice Church I used to go there. They have a website. They are planning to extend the Church into the graveyard, so if you have any rellies possibly buried there, it might be worth a visit sooner rather than later. Still comes under the Diocese of Liverpool, by the way. Regards, Karen. |

I've just been on www(.)findachurch(.)com and that lists the following churches in Kirkby today. Holy Angels, Kirkby Baptist Church, Kirkby Christian Fellowship, Northwood Chapel, SS Peter & Paul, St Andrew, St Chad, St Joseph the Worker, St Laurence, St Mark, St Martin, St Mary, St Michael's, St Peter & St Paul R C Church, Temple of Praise and Westvale Chapel. I'm pretty sure St. Chad's has been around since the 19th century because I keep coming across it. And it's not so far from Liverpool - I have a few people from nearby Aughton and Ormskirk who went to get married in Liverpool. I wondered with them if it was parental or parish disapproval that meant they had to go elsewhere. |

This tells you about churches in Kirkby: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/Kirkby/ By doing a google search, it would seem that St Bartholomew's is in Roby, about 6 miles from Kirkby. Sam x |

Yes, I sure am swimming in a great big sea of treacle. My 3xgrt grandparents lived in Kirkby, lancashire, I have their marriage cert. and it says they were marrried in St. Bartholomews, in the Parish Of Liverpool. How do I find out how many churches there were/is in Kirkby and if the all encompassing parish, was Liverpool??? Kathlyn |
