Need help with Occupation on Birth Certificate

If they ae living in Rochester (Kent?) I would say he is more likely to be Royal Marine Light Infantry than anything else - he is only a short distance from Chatham docks and there are a lot of military bases in around the Medway towns. |

Hi Deb, thanks for the offer, someone has done the 1901 and 18.. census search for me, i have loads of details for my great grandmother but nothing showing up for William Greig born in c1880, believe him to have been from scotland so i have ordered a marriage certificate for him and my great grandmother lilian clara young, that should give me more information thanks, stephanie |

I must admit that RNLI (Lifeboat service) was what I first thought of, but I don't think you would have a Lance Sergeant in that. It will probably be the initials of his regiment, but I'm not sure of one with those initials. hi there, i just received the birth certificate for my grandmother born 1905 and her father's occupation is listed as 'Lance Sergeant' after that it says what i can make out as R.Ni Ll any idea what the last bit means ? thanks for any help, Stephanie |
