Hi Peter What I do and always have done with genes it manually put in any names that I thought were relevant to my searching.... main lines or an interesting family... I also take out families manually and re add others in at different times.. just to see if any interest is displayed by anyone.... Every now and again I export genes tree.. and then re-upload to keep refreshing the names.. As for the Paf.. I upload that file into my family tree maker before I try and do anything with living persons.. Anyone who does not have a death date in Paf.. will be down as being a living person even if that person was born in 1811.. Mo Also be careful what notes and things that have been made in Paf.. as your gedcom file will take all of that information to genes too.. Mo

I use PAF 5. I can import all data but I am reluctant to import data on living so I deselect 'Full information on Living' and 'Names on living' as well as all other 'Includes' except 'Submitter' when extracting. The result is a mess. I am 'Living'. It does not link the PAF import correctly with my original one person tree on GU. The dates for 'Living' are wildly out - some 'Living' are c.1811. I'd sooner not have any 'Living' except myself and wife on the tree. I know I can manually amend the mess but I'll have to go through the whole process again when I import again. Anyone got a better method? Your help would be appreciated. Peter
