Hi Lindy dont forget there are other ranges for WW1, there are the burnt files WO363 range at Kew. So just because he isnt in the range that Ancestry have at the moment (WO364) it doesnt mean that his files doesnt exist anymore. If he was injured, then he may have been given the SWB silver war badge, so bear this in mind with entries you find.

Oops sorry, ignore that bit!! It also say this: These records are unlikely to contain information on individuals who did not claim a pension. These records are unlikely to contain documents on soldiers who were killed in action and had no dependents (as there would have been no one to claim a pension). These records are unlikely to contain documents on soldiers who were discharged from demobilization at the end of the war and did not claim a pension (since they were generally not eligible for one). Some records may have been stored and/or filmed in incorrect alphabetical order. Some records may appear to be out of order due to a misspelling or misreading of the name. Some soldiers did not record their first names; some of them only used initials, and others used nicknames or diminutive names. Not sure if that helps. Sam x

Charles Samuel Arnold born 1878 Hi unfortuantely there is only a 1 in 3 chance of you finding his service record, as most were destroyed duing a fire caused by a bomb in WW2. Have you tried looking for his medal card on www.nationalarchives.gov.uk ? If you find out what regiment he served with and his number then you might be lucky to find him in the war diaries for his regiment. Also try www.1914-1918.net after you download the card, join their forum they have some excellent military buffs over there.

I've just searched ancestry WW1 Pensions. My grandfather Charles Samuel Arnold born 1878 isn't there. I know nothing apart from he lost a leg in WW1 and died around 1954. Any ideas folks? Lindy
