Cheers Heather - I'll get looking. Three days is plenty of time for me to get some info - even if it's only one lead! Thanks again Jen |

Jen, I think they are actually giving a 3 day free trial at the moment where you dont even need to enter credit card details. They are an absolutely bona fide company and I have no qualms at all giving my credit card details to them - but there is a free phone number on there and I do believe some people have rung and been able to send a cheque. Check it out. Ill see if I can find that 3 days free trail thread. |

Hi Heather, thanks for your help. I know that Ancestry is the big one for genealogy, and that you can join for a trial period for free. The thing is, you still need a credit (not debit) card to register for the free trial and I am a very anti credit card person! Personally, I do think it's a bit unfair, but that's how it is I suppose. Very little is known about my ancestors, so at the moment, BMI and the census are pretty much the only things I can use at the mo. I know what you mean about it being expensive though! Thanks again Jennifer |

Jennifer - I can see you are new - just a tip - anything/anywhere/anyone you want info on - try google searching - you could even find someone with a tree including your lot out on the internet. Next tip - you seem to have confined your search to 1901 which probably means you are paying through the nose to use the records search on here - get yourself an ancestry sub and be able to search from 1901 back to 1841 plus the full bmd index (which I guess you are also paying for on here) and LOTS of other goodies. Oh and get a decent family tree program on your computer for all your info and photos etc which you can back up to cd and the internet (the GR one is not a good program and if your puter crashes you dont want to lose all your work in a few years time!) Good luck! |

Hi. I've managed to find a relative of mine (John Mannion-Hudersfield) on the 1901 census. His occupation is listed as being an iron dresser. Does anyone know what that means-is it the same as being an iron monger? Just curious really! Thanks Jennifer |
