People often lied about their ages at marriages, to make them older, i.e. 21 or over, was full age. I've had this happen a couple of times. have you checked out who the witness are? sometimes going sidewards help to go backwards, (hope that makes sense) Selena

Thanks i will try going down the witness route and see if that might help. Although neither are family members but may have been neighbours or in laws.

Thanks for the info I had found the 1854 one but not sure with it making her younger but it is the closest. I do think her father will have been a miner as the area she lived in was the mining district . Looks like i've come to the end.

Hi Christine, unless he was very young (about 14) when Sarah was born, you are unlikely to find a birth certificate for her father James, as registration did not begin until 1837. As registration was not compulsary (it became the parents responsiblity to register under penalty of fine) until 1875, it may be the unfortunate case that she was not registered.

I am trying to find Sarah Shield could be Shields born 1851 ish ,father's name James. She married John Dickinson in 1873 aged 22. I can find her on the cenus from then on.However she gives different places of birth and D.O.B. 1881 Armatage Cumberland 1891 Whithaven Cumberland d.o.b.abt 1847 1901Alston Moor Northumberland d.o.b.1849 I can't find a birth certificate or her fathers as i have no idea of his d.o.b. or where he was born . Where do i go from here. Thanks to all the people who helped last time sorry for the pm's wasn't sure how this worked but hope i have sussed it now .
