Can anyone please tell me if they have caome across Savina as a first name and anything about its origins? I have an ancestor with this name and have never heard it before.

Savina, no. Have a few Sabinas though.

Are you sure it isnt Lavinia? Capital S and capital L often get confused by transcribers. OC

...and Lavina is one I've seen...not Savina, unfortunately. Must be one of those very unusual name.

No sure that it is Savina, but oddly enough I am reading a novel set in Greece with a Savina in it, but I am sure I have no Greek connections. I was wondering if anyone else had a Savina in their family.

According to Wikipedia... Saint Savina (d. 311) was a Milanese martyr under Diocletian. Her feast day is 30 January. Tradition states that she died while praying at the tomb of Saints Nabor and Felix. Not sure that helps any though... still, she's there!

That was very interesting, I feel at least I am learning a little more. My father tells me she was known as Vina.

According to one web site it is the feminine form of the Italian name Savino, also sometimes used as Sabine, also means 'protection' Gail. x
