I'm trying to track down a marriage and trawling through the possibles (like you do!) for what seems like hours, I have found that sometimes the records are not complete ie there are 3 females with 2 males on the record (1 male missing) or no other party at all. Where else can I look please? I've been searching Free BMD Index. Just want to say help I've had is tremendous. x Pat

what Reggie was saying was that you can search the (Complete BMD Index ranges & Images 1837-1983) on ancestry these are not the same as (Partial FreeBMD Indexes & Images 1837-1983) on ancestry (Partial FreeBMD Indexes & Images 1837-1983) only covers the index that has been transcribed, it is far from complete, thats why in the title it states (Partial) Roy

I specifically used the word 'full'..........to distinguish the records from the freebmd transcripts........ Reg

Sorry Reg and Roy but I have searched the FULL not partial Ancestry Free BMD Marriage Index. Thank you anyway. I'll start again and look for the other partner maybe that will be a winner. Just wondered if there was anywhere else to look. Pat

Hi Janet I'm looking for Annie Hinton born abt1868 in Crendon Bucks married a William Cross born abt 1860 (Crendon Bucks). Missing partners on Vol 1d page 252, Vol 6b page 1046 and 2c 826? Can't find her on the 1881 or 1891 census either! Must go back later Thanks Pat

I suspect that this one with Annie Stinton on is a mistranscription/duplication and only actually 4 on sheet. 1884 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: St Saviour Southwark County: London, Surrey Volume: 1d Page: 252

Hi Margaret and Keith. Just here on a quick visit on my way out now. How did you do that Margaret? I usually look for census on the FreeCen site is this not a good idea? I couldn't find Annie at all on the 1881 in Crendon. Thank you Keith. I didn't read the name as Stinton - must need better glasses! In fact I know I do. Still need to find that elusive marriage but will have to wait for tomorrow now. It just seemed easier to search for Hinton rather than Cross. I know they had their first or seemingly first child in 1889 so I'm assuming they married before that - but who knows, could have been ages after. I know they moved to Watford area for the birth of their second child and one came nearly every year afterwards until 1901. Maybe they never married. Bound to find it eventually. This looks like Annie's younger brother and sister from the 1881 census, living in 1891 with their widowed mother. I'll have to find out where she was in 81. 1891 census Bicester Road, (Chandos? Arms), Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire Mary Hinton, head, widow, 53, publican & laundress, born Honeyborne, Gloucester Sarah A., dau, 16, laundress, born Long Crendon George, son, 14, mason's assistant, born Long Crendon James Cheney, lodger, 64, rat catcher, born Sydenham Note: Blind ( I'm sorry but that made me chuckle! How did he catch them?) OK I'm slapping my wrist! Margaret

Going on from the christening that Lesley found, I clicked on the batch number and found 2 others with parents Thomas & Mary. Emma Jane, 16 Jan.1873 Rosa, 13 Dec.1870 (Both christening dates) Margaret

Hi Margaret thank you for all your hard work. The 1871/1881/1891 put together would seem to be the same family except I think they must have Mary's age wrong on 1891 as she was only 19 in 1871. I note that Mary was missing from 1881 but there were two more children and in 1891 when Mary was then a widow Annie (my ancestor) and her sister Rosa seem to have left home which would suggest that Annie may well have been married to William Cross by then which narrows down my dates for looking. Not sure about Emma Jane on the christening info. She doesn't appear on the 1871/1881/1891 but Rosa would be right. Thank you also Lesley for the info found on Annie's christening. At work at mo but popping onto site on and off throughout day (naughty). Laughed at the blind rat catcher - that must have been a sight!!
