There are lots of books that list clockmakers and their apprentices for various parts of the UK. One of my ancestors (a clock and watchmaker in Edinburgh) is listed in one such book and it shows who he served his apprenticeship with (Thomas Reid), how long the apprenticeship was for (6 years) who his father was etc. Here is a website I found by Googling that lists the various books that contain names of clockmakers around the UK: http://www(.)bhi(.)co(.)uk/hints/datebooks.htm (Remove the brackets) Hope that helps Athena |

Hi Kath Don't know what area you are looking at, but if it's London, the guild of livery companies might be able to help: http://www.()cityoflondon.gov(.)uk/Corporation/leisure_heritage/livery/ regards Looby |

Does anyone know if there is a register for watch & clock makers for late 1800's? Have jusy discovered that ancestors were doing this for a few generations. Kath |
