Thank you Maureen, I've just had a look for him. Gosh what a messy page that is where Thomas is recorded. I think his surname ends with ?.....elove but the age and occupation are right. I would have thought that the lost Thomas would show up in 1841 or 1851 in Sussex. Perhaps workhouse books might reveal more about him. I am trying to find out where he was born so that hopefully we can fit him into a known family. Sussex was a stronghold for that surname, ...although of course he could have come from anywhere. Gwyn

1851 I did not post this originally as I can not read the name on the image but I think it is not Belchamber. Probably too far along the coast but the occupation looks like vagrant sweep !!! Thank you everyone who has helped. Can anyone find Thomas the chimney sweep, he is still missing? I wonder if the fact that he was buried in Broadwater is significant? In 1851, there was a Benjamin Belchamber, 24, living in Broadwater and he was a chimney sweep but in view of the ages I do think they are separate people. Gwyn

I am trying to help a friend and she is most impressed by your speedy answers and help.... Thank you. Unfortunately we can rule out the 1841 census Thomas, ...he was a bricklayer and died 1903.... He was the one on the IGI record, son of Stephen and Anne. Thomas who married Catherine Scovell died in 1856, Catherine in 1858 ( as posted)... but they are farming in Sussex in 1851, so he can't be the coalwhipper elsewhere in 1851 census. I don't know who Thomas and Catherine are in Shadwell... I can't find them in 1861. So we are still left with the chimney sweep to find in a census, please. Gwyn
