You wouldn't believe how may people are out there who would be only too willing to get you started with your family research. Many of us on this site are real addicts and when we get stuck or bored looking for info on our own tree, we're off to help someon with theirs. Why not try posting some names, regional areas, dates of birth etc: on this site and I guarantee you'll be amazed at how at many responses that you'll get. We're pretty good at detective work and this site has some members who are real geniuses and remember they won't charge you a red cent and they have access to a thousand sources. Go on, you've nothing to lose!

I would take up fishing before you get addicted to this game. Only kidding but it is addictive. Get a cheap 'Family Tree' type book - and then come on line and you will get lots of help. Good hunting. Keith

Be organised ! - number ONE tip, you will very soon have masses of information (you might not think this at the moment !). There are a number of Threads on how to be organised, have a read through and it'll be so much easier. I'd also start with yourself, order up your Birth Cert, work backwards on your parents, grandparents etc etc. It sounds like you already have a number of facts and figures, which is great. If you have any older relatives, then it's a good idea to 'pick their brains' on names, dates, places etc etc of their parents, grandparents and so on. And of course ENJOY !

Hi Matthew, events may not be recorded where you expect them to be. The events are recorded in registration districts that cover certain areas, so where you think the event happened may be recorded in a different district name. See here for a list of parishes and registration district coverage etc. http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/REG/ If you would care to give us some areas, can tell you which registration districts they are in.

If you are looking for birth certificate references, the areas are in registration districts, which may not look familiar to you. You can find out about registration districts on GENUKI. You'll find lots of other useful things there too! Anne

HI, i am just starting out trying to find my relatives. I have forenames, surnames, DOB and some places of baptism. I have tried searching on the records but nothing seems to match (especially place/area), am i doing something wrong or are the areas not as specific as i thought they would be? Any advice woudl be greatly appreciated. Matt.
