Cant find a marriage for the two of them... Cant find a William born IOW not near that date... Where do i go from here to trace the family backwards?... Sure there must be a way but i cant think of it. Maureen

You dont say where he was in 1881 - but this lot are in St Pancras 1851 - good old ancestry has given his place of birth as Isle of White, Befordshire whereas the image says Ride (sic), isle of Wight (this would tie in with that IGI above) Though his year of birth appears to be 1821 - must have had a late christening?? Will go back and check the image for this age! The image appears to say he is 20! still big gap between the kids there. At first I thought may be they were his. Naybe dad married twice to Anns or maybe the kids in between have left home. All those shown except him are born in London. Ann W Battershall 45 John Battershall 45 William Battershall 30 Alice Mattershall 6 Fanny Mattershall 3 Francis Mattershall 12 Jane Mattershall 9
