1782 Babtism Details

hi......can anyone tell me the details of a babtism in 1782...... would it have the mothers maiden name?....... would it have the mothers dob and place of birth?....... would it have the fathers dob and pob?...... thanks in advance.......allan

Baptism records were not consistent in every church. You may only get the father's name or you may get both parents' names. You may be very unlucky as I was and get 'Benjamiin Powell was baptised this day' and nothing else. I have also been lucky and found the father's occupation sometimes and also the mother's maiden name. You won't get dates or places of births for either parent in England or Wales Gwynne

thanks gwynne.......i know parents names are ralph and mary oakes........seems a little fruitless ,purchasing a babtism record,and not getting the info you require........the church(st oswalds,backford,cheshire) is only 40 mins by car,from where i live......would i be better going to the church...would they have more details....i`m trying to find out my 5x g grandfather / grandmothers dob`s and where they were from.....their marriage is not registered at this church....any tips?....regards...allan

The records aren't likely to be at the church. They should be in the county record office. How do you know they weren't married there? Gwynne

hi gwynne....sorry about delay....all the family babtisms/marriages/burials are on www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb a cheshire bmd site which has st oswalds church records.....if you don`t mind looking,you`ll find mary and ralphs 3 childrens babtisms..marriages and burials....including ralph in 1800....thanks for your help....allan

Hi Allan, If the marriage isn't there then you may have to look in surrounding parishes. When you find rhe marriage it may tell you which parish they were from which will enable you to search there for baptisms Gwynne
