My grandfather Henry Otto Thomas described himself as Director when registering my father's birth in 1899 and again in the 1901 census. Later in his career he became a director of Iliffe and Sons Ltd, publishers of The Motor Cycle and much else, but he did not join that company until about 1903, and I have an impression that the earlier references are to a small family business. Can anyone direct me, please, to how I search records of company directorships ca. 1900. Alastair Thomas
