I am trying to find my family of Gotts in 1861 below is 1851 census for reference. I know that Henry married in 1865 & James was one of the witnessess so there where at least 2 alive! Hi Roy I had found that entry & I believe he is noted as being a widower - but where are the children and wasn't 100% sure it was the correct Thomas. I am particularly trying find Henry

Jane, something not right with this? look at the 1861 image, next door to Thomas is a lady down as widow, then the family after her, the wife has the same name as Thomas Gotts (Susanna) with husband Thomas and the same childrens names and simular ages? but they are all called surname Nurse. Even thomas and sussana Nurse are the same age as your thomas and sussana what do you think? Roy

I had noticed the Nurse family with practically the same children too which I found odd, not too sure about the 1871 as Thomas is down as Shoe maker and 1861 he was Ag Lab on Henry's marriage cert in 1865 his down as labourer. Seem's a big change in career! Thanks for you help so far though

Well done for finding it. can you tell what the name Mahala is because I'm not sure that's a name

I have seen the name Mahala before, so it IS a name. UPDATE - found this on baby name site:- The meaning of the name Mahala is: Powerful Kath. x

thanks I think Matilda probably is the best bet - I have got 1881 census and there is no mention of any child with the name beginning with M so suspect she may be an infant mortality Thanks again Jane kathleen - thanks for putting me right, I had never heard of the name.
