I am trying to discover if it was my Great Grandfather who lived at 16 Horsley Street, Wibsey, near Bradford in the mid 1930's. His name was Joseph Walton Carr and he died at 12 Square Street, Bradford in 1952. I have looked at 1930's street directories for the area and there was a Joseph W Carr living at 12 Horsley St., Horsley. I would very much like to know if it was him and if there was anyone else living at this address. All I can think of is Rate Books but where are these kept? Does anyone know if Horsley Street is still there? Any other suggestions? |

Multimap has a Horsley Street listed under Buttershaw rather than Wibsey, but it is right - they are both BD6 postcode. Not sure whether the buildings are unchanged, but there is a good chance that it is still unaltered, since it is away from the main redevelopment sites in Bradford. Sorry, can't help with others at the same address in the 1930's - I haven't done any tracking in 20th century. |

On the RAC route planner there is still a Horsley Street so that would seem it still exists. I assume this is the same one. Re rate books I suggest Bradford RO or if not there possibly Wakefiled RO. Contact Bradford they are usually very helpful John |

John, I know what you mean - but if it was the first time he had used the boards, and waited eagerly for twenty minutes for a reply, he may have given up before he had any replies - unlike messages, there is no direct prompt to his personal email to go and look at replies on the community boards. |

Well Ivy after 2 weeks I would have cera=tainlt looked for any answers. Either people are not bothered or just ignorant....... possibly? Its responses like this (none) that made me give up helping people for 6 months. I return and after 6 helps all I get is 2 thank you's Not after praise just an acknowledgement of the work we put in. Do people want us to do all the work for them? |
