At last after three years of searching I've found the marriage of Kate Stewart.(See below) |

Kate was sent as a child to live with Dan and Mary Phillips in Westminster Ontario in 1882. I've just found out that she married Dan's nephew William S Tilton on 04/09/1888. Now I need to find out what happened to them after the marriage -I've already got plenty on them prior to the marriage. Can anybody help? Kate (or Catherine) was born c1872 in either Ireland or England. William was born 1857, Cornwall Township, Stormont Co.,Ontario. |

Hi Paul: Are you aware that someone on Rootsweb is researching William's sibling? http://wc*rootsweb*com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi (replace * with .) Didn't see anything on the Ontario Cemetery Find Aid (but then, most of my ancestors are not listed either) or Ontario Marriages. http://www*islandnet*com/ocfa/ http://homepages.rootsweb*com/~maryc/ontmarr.htm |

Kate was very young to get married - I have a suspicion she was actually barely 16. Was it a 'shotgun wedding'? Was there a Tilton child born soon after the wedding? I don't have access to Canadian births. |

Don't see them on the Canadian 1901 census. Rose |

Maybe they crossed into the USA. I notice several Tiltons in San Diego in later census indexes although I have no access to the actual details. Maybe little Charlene Tilton from 'Dallas' is a descendant!!!! |

Paul - go to Ancestry*com and get their 3 day free trial - you will then have access to the canadian bmd and census!! Don't forget to use a different email address if you normally have membership (it asks you to start a tree in exchange for this freebie - basically three people are enough to get going, can be ANY three people) no credit card details asked for. Omigosh! This William S. Tilton is in my husband's tree (not on this site unfortunately). He was my husband's 1st. cousin, 3 times removed, 8th cousin, 3 times removed and 9th cousin, twice removed. (we had a lot of inter-marrying in these parts) I have his birthdate as 29 Jan. 1857 in Cornwall Township. Unfortunately I have no record of his marriage or any children. but will get working on it. I live in Cornwall, Ontario. Margaret |

Just noticed this in the notes for William S. Tilton: From undated, unidentified family notes - 'Married Cornwall, separated from wife, last seen going west on a boat.' That's not very helpful, it it? Margaret |

Wow - Margaret! Not Helpful????? You gotta be joking! Now the story's getting really interesting! I guess now I should be looking for a re-marriage of Catherine Tilton. This is really great. |

Margaret's just PM'd me with two more family connections, and we've discovered that I hold an 1885 letter from Kate describing the wedding of somebody in Margaret's husband's tree - and the same person and her husband were witnesses at my Kate's wedding! Perfect proof that GR can be a fantastic tool when used properly. I think I'll have to put something on the Success Board! |

Following your story, Paul, here and elsewhere. Yes - when used properly - go for it, put it on there - this is REAL success ... :-) MM |
