I have a man in my tree who for the most part of his life was a CHEMIST yet on a death cert which fits him for everything except occupation he is noted as a WRITER. I have recently found out thru help on this site where he was in 1851 and it is definitely him working as a CLERK. The question is this: IS IT FAIR TO SAY THAT A 'CLERK' COULD ALSO BE KNOWN AS A 'WRITER' IN THE 1850's? Maria

In our modern times we would be more likely to think of it as an author of books or similar. Always good to have people to bounce an idea around with. cheers maria
