Can anyone suggest how I can find out where my great great grandmother went. Her name was Elizabeth Rose born in Stratford on Avon c.1857 the daughter of William Rose and Mary Tutton/Sutton. She gave birth to an illegitimate son in Stratford Union Workhouse, Old Stratford in September 1878 after that I have no idea where she went. I was told by Stratord on Avon records office that the workhouse records for that period are missing so no joy there. I can't find her on the 1881 census so assumed she had either married or died but I haven't been able to trace proof of either. Please help I'm going mad. Carol

Hi Ann, yes I have traced the son his name was Frederick William Rose. He is shown on 1881 census as William Rose living in Alderminster, Worcestershire with his grandparents but there's no sign of Elizabeth. Carol

Thanks for your interest Maid Marion and Georgina. The Elizabeth I am looking for had no middle name and the Elizabeth visiting Alcester was Elizabeth Minna Rose who fortunately for her married a Mr. James Crowhurst and the Elizabeth Rose who married Henry Jones is not the right one either. I got a refund from the GRO on that one today as her father was not named William. Carol

There are quite a few Elizabeth Rose marriages in the Birmingham area in the 1880's which wouldn't be too far for her to go. Kath. x
