Hi Sue: Sorry to jump in on your original question but do you know a web site where the names of War Brides are listed? Thanks, Linda

Can anyone else shed any light on whether it was possible to travel to the US/Canada without being married to the soldier. There is an Amy Fisher (her married name to my grandfather) named going to Canada but its difficult to pin point if its the right Amy Fisher, Sue

I was under the impression that they had to be married first but I could be mistaken. It's happened before, once or twice, Margaret

I am trying to find out whether it was possible to travel to the US and Canada after the war if you weren't married to your beloved soldier. I have a grandmother who may have left her children in the UK and gone overseas with a soldier (poss to Canada). We don't believe she was married to him at that time as she wasn't divorced from my Grandfather. There is a woman on the War Brides website with the same name but that would obviously mean she wasn't married when she travelled overseas. Can anyone shed any light on my query? Sue
