	Un or U on the census normaly means unmarried also seen it down as Unm for unmarried from 1871 census WI = wife DA = daughter GD = granddaughter GS = grandson HD = head Lgr = lodger M = married U = unmarried NP = nephew NC = niece SCH = scholar Sis = sister SO = son SV or Ser = servant SL or SOLW = son-in-law (this could mean stepson, or something different than the modern day usage) AG LAB = agricultural laborer FRMR = farmer Roy

	Hi I have found a thread regarding the above put on the board 1/9/05 which gives the meaning for various letters entered under the marital status column on the census form - which is very useful. I have come across 'Un' or U - which is not on the list - and I was wondering if it stood for Unmarried or Unknown - presumably it would be an S if the person was not married so am I correct in assuming it means unknown? Many thanks in advance for any replies. Angela
