I have a friend who was brought up in this home in the 1940's and 50's .The Catholic Care Society who now have all the records for this place won't let anyone look at them. They told me that even if my friend paid a private detective they would not be allowed to see the records. He would like any info they have about his mother but has to go on an approx 18 month waiting list for their 'volunteers' to help him.Has anyone had any experience of this organisation and do you think there's any way of getting his records apart from him going on the waiting list?He spoke to one of the 'volunteers' last year who made it clear she knew about his family but that if he went into it he'd be opening an can of worms and he didn't want to do that did he?Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Did you go to a Local CSS? There is a an online web site, maybe they would be more help. Have a look at http://www.ccsadoption.org/if_you're_adopted.htm

Ann, I've tried that website you've suggested several times but just get a message to say it doesn't exist. Wendy

You could try a google search for Catholic Children's Society Belfast. I did + it brings up all sorts of info , including the Adoption Authority of Ireland. You might be Lucky + find another way round the problem. Good Luck Ann x
