Sounds very dramatic but was used for 'died suddenly of natural causes' .... i.e. no obvious illness or accident preceding death. Sounds very dramatic though! You can imagine being struck down by a thunderbolt like in one of these Hollywood blockbuster religious films! If you google 'visitation by God cause of death', there are some interesting sites.

I take it to mean that there was not a known cause such as accident or disease. If you walk round a cemetery it's interesting to see just how many different terms can be used for dying. Gwyn

reading my family tree magazine there is a list of causes of deaths recorded by a coroner and in 1815 two are shown as ' a visitation from god'. what does this mean exactly? many thanks.
