Parish records, best way to search

Can you tell me the best way to get results when searching the parish records on Ancestry. I'm looking for the birth of a William Hodges, around 1830'ish in Worcester, son of Thomas. When I search using his name, the results come up with all sorts of things ranging from burials going back to the 1500's. How can I define my search more so that it only comes up with things around the time I'm looking for ? I can never seem to find anything in the parish records. Alison
