Hello Tina Marie, If you look on the Office of National Statistics website under Births, there may be something in one of the 'drop down' menu which will help you. Other than that you could try sending them an e-mail. How are you? I have had a lucky breakthrough recently, my Ggrandfather did not appear to have his birth registered, but I now have a copy of his Baptism details, so I know he did exist, lol!! Sue x |

If the second husband was not your natural father, he would have had to go through a process known as 'mother's own' adoption if you were to be given his surname. Your original birth record will still be on file, and you should be able to purchase a copy of the cert Reg. |

I believe there was a law passed in 1927? that allowed people to re-register (no adoption necessary) their children as long as they were both free to marry at the time of the birth, and subsequently married. There would then be a new certificate issued. |

My parents weren't married when I was born. I was registered in 1960 in my mothers surname to her first husband. My 'short' birth certificate has been amended to add her second husband's surname in 1965. Would the second husband have to adopt me to be able to add the name? I would be really grateful if some light could be shed on this. Many Thanks. |
