With a name like McQuillan (or variants) its a good bet that he is Irish and Con is usually a diminutive of Cornelius in Ireland. Hope this helps

Found several under the name MacQuillin or Mac Quillin but no Con up to 1916

Looks like it's much older than that Lindy Loo! I googled + found this: The boy's name Connor \c(on)-nor\ is pronounced KAH-ner. It is of Gaelic origin, and its meaning is 'hound-lover'. Anglicized form of Conchobhar (Gaelic), which was the name of a legendary king of Ulster who lived at the time of Christ.

Does anyone know if Con (male christian name) is short for anything else, I suspect it's Irish can anyone confirm that also. Thanks in advance for your info.
