I have being inerested to get hold of Grandfather medical records. He died in 1988 and my mother said that they will have probably destroyed them. |

It depends on when they died. My great grandad died in a mental hospital in 1935 so I contacted the Records Office that hold the records for that particular hospital. They have got to contact the relevant Health Authority on my behalf to get permission for me to view the records. Hopefully they will say yes. He has been dead for 71 years and my dad is his nearest descendant still alive - he had no idea why his grandad was in amental hospital and unfortunately the death certificate just has 'Has Diabetes' as the cause of death. I would love to know why he was in there, I'm sure having diabetes was no reason to ne in a mental hospital, even in 1935! I think there is a 100 year closure on those type of records so maybe if you are looking prior to 1906 you may be ok. If you go to the National Archives website, they will tell you if any records exist and who holds them. Sam x |

Is there any way of find out previous medical records of ancestors, I have a few who died the union workhouse. regards angela |
