I have been registered for a long time but honestly get little time to spend researching, so every time I come here I feel like I'm starting over. Anyhow, when researching your family tree is it best to follow the fathers line first or does it make no difference? Paula

Just follow which ever line you fancy! The only real rule is that you start with what you know ie YOU! and work back through your parent; grandparents; great grandparents and so on. It can sometimes be easier to follow the male line because the name stays the same. But if another branch looks more interesting just follow that one, you can always come back to others later. Enjoy - there's no rush, your ancestors are not going anywhere! (Although it might be a good idea to quiz elderly relatives while they are still with you) Anne

Thanks Anne! I'm an adoptee so quizzing living rellies is difficult to say the least!! I did find a cousin in Australia but he doesn't seem to know much nor be too willing to talk about it. My birth was a hush hush situation so I am trying not to step on any toes! Thanks for your advice, I'm off to search some Aussie sites! Paula

Paula, if you put the word adoption in the search box at the top you will get some very useful threads on tracing biological lines.

Thank-You, I will try that as I'm having no joy on anything else so far today!!

Heather, when I try that it comes up with nothing, just the explanation of what the Tips Board is for. I tried putting the word 'Australian' in too as I know I've seen something in the past with that in the title and it's does the same thing. Am I missing something really obvious?

Ive bumped it up for you and will do it again. You just put it in the search box - dont know why you had a problem. Its just two threads below this one now. Ill try Aus for you.

Thanks, Heather! I just tried again and it's still doing it. I'll post a nydge reply on the adoption link and hopefully will be able to pull it up from 'My Threads' in future. (???)
