I queried a new contact about why she'd not named people in her tree born as long ago as 1890 ... instead 'Living Relative' was showing. I thought this was taking secrecy a bit far (let alone being highly dubious!), so I asked her about it. She replied, 'I think the reason why I may have 'living' relatives born in 1890s, apart from being from a line of long livers! is that I havent yet entered death dates and Genes removes any born within last 120 years unless there is a death date, as they are all named on my copy of the tree.' I've been a Genes member for about 4 years and I've never heard of this! A) is it true or has my contact got her wires crossed? B) if it IS true, then how is anyone supposed to know about this rule if they can plainly see all their own people born within the past 120 years (and who don't have death dates). Hope someone can clear this up for me!

That is correct.......if you choose the option of 'hide living relatives' GR includes any born less than 120 years ago for whom you have not entered a death date. Check it out, by looking at the option............. Reg

yes it is if you go click on My account on left hand side you will see where you can click abox to change people to living but its 120 years so any one not with a death date will be classed as a living person Jeanette

You will see your own family members (even the living ones) but if you tick the box to say you want living relatives hidden from anyone else who contacts you about your tree, then those people can't see the names of your living relatives. You can check what you have ticked by going into 'My Account Details' on the left of the screen. Kath. x
