hi My g.grandma was sent to Barlinnie Prison in Glasgow, Scotland for commiting bigamy (she didn't realise, she thought because she had left her husband and several years had past that was it all done). She married in 1941 (2nd) and on the cert it states that she was prev. married to husband no1 and that the divorce came through in Dec 1940. However, hubby no1 turned up and wanted to marry his new girlfriend so wanted a divorce & when he found out that my g.grandma had re-married he reported her to the authorities. She then spent some time in Bar-L between 1941 and April 1943 - I know she was home by then as My mum was born in April 43 and G.grandma delivered her! How would I find out when she was in prision. Also how would I find out about the 'divorce' - did she actually get divorce - this would have made marriage no2 null & void, but it' unknown if they 'remarried' once she had her proper divorce through. Any help would be gratefully rec'd. thanks bun107 |

Hi June, there are 391 records for Barlinnie Prison on the National Archives of Scotland website, http://www.dswebhosting.info/NAS/dserve.exe?dsqApp=Site20&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=Search.tcl just scroll down to your relevant dates. I would suggest you email them asking for assistance quoting the appropriate ref:No: I have always found them to be very helpful. Bye Helen |
