Was this the marriage? Marriages, JFM 1917 Mohomed Ali & Doris K Bulmer, Salford You should get the certificate as that will have his age & father's name. You might then be able to find his birth (if it was in UK), and it will also help you decide which one of the several dozen Mohamed Alis who died in WW2 was him. Richard |

That's the big problem, I don't know if he was a british citizen but i presume he became one automatically when he married my gran. I don't have any cert. yet but i'll get a copy of my da's 2morrow as i live in the same town he was born. I'll try that other site too Thanks again Heather Lesley xx |

Try CWGC site - it does often list next of kin and with a name like that - you shouldnt have too many choices! Oh, but then again, we had so many Indian regiments in the war you may find you have too many choices! Also, thinking about it - if he died in the 1940s and married 23 years earlier, he was quite mature to be in the forces unless he was a regular soldier. What was his occupation on his marriage cert? |

Theres familyrelatives.org which gives overseas deaths - I assume your grandad was a British citizen? those records are free to view at the mo. Or findmypast which is pay to view. But have you got the marriage certificate which would give his occupation, age and his fathers name - actually have you got your parents birth cert as that would give his name and occupation too. |

Can anyone help me? I'm stuck with my tree. My grandfather was called Mahomed Ali and the only info i can locate is a marriage to my gran in 1917 in Salford. Now i'm pretty sure he wasn't born in england but i could be wrong. I know my gran married again in the 40's and was told he died at sea in ww2. Can anyone suggest any sites that would give me lists of casualities at sea that would maybe list spouses. I think that might help Thanks Lesley |
