Have just had a look at the two poss marriages for Emma - the second one is def not her - found her on 1901 census and birthplace and age are wrong. The other one there are only three names on the page and I know the one missing is the spouse for the other 'Emma' - does anyone know how I can find out the fourth name on the page without buying the cert????? Obviously without her new married name I can;t even look for her on the 1901 !! Any helpful suggestions appreciated !! Looby

Hi Gwyn did think about this, but unfortunately live quite a distance away, and am not sure where else, apart from local library, I might find a copy of the electoral rolls. regards Looby

As you have an address for Richard, it might be an idea to track him there and see when he disappears from election lists. This might be when he dies but at least it would cut down the years to search. Gwyn

I have a bit of a dilemma and if I could find this family on the 1881 it might solve quite a few questions and enable me to trace ‘Emma’– info I have is: 1871 Richard T Miller, born Gloucester St Michaels/Newent with wife Mary Ann – born Hartpury Glos, and children Henry (born c.1865) and Emma (born c.1866) – have both birth refs but not certs. Shown as cordwainer living in village of Staunton Glos. 1881 Can find no trace of any of them!!! 1891 Richard shown with wife Mary-Ann and son Henry living at Gas Street, Desborough Northants – no sign of Emma, although there are possibly two marriages for an ‘Emma Miller’ in Kettering in 1891, but both show a ‘middle’ name. 1901 Richard Thomas Miller – shown aged 67, Freestone Row, Kettering Northants, widower, Tea Merchant – correct place of birth. I know, as I have the certificate, that Mary-Ann died on 31st March 1899 at 3 Freestone Row, Kettering. I also have a copy of a letter written by ‘Thos.’ Miller from 3 Freestone Row to an archivist of his regiment dated 27th January 1914 – from other information I believe this to actually be ‘Richard Thomas’. Now the problem – I can’t find a death ref for ‘Richard/Thomas’ before he would have reached the age of 110 !!!!! I am just wondering if I managed to trace Emma whether it is possible that he was living with her at his death and this is why I can’t find him. The people at the local cemetery have been really helpful and we have established that he wasn’t buried with his wife – or his son- so I really don’t know what to try next.
