I am looking for info on my Gran's brother James William Cannon he was born 16.8.1908 in Gateshead he joined the Austialian Army in 1940, taken prisoner by Japanese for 3 years. I have his death details 20.12.1962 South Guildford - his ashes where taken by the War graves from karrakatta. What I would like to know if possible is, when he entered Australia and I beleive he may have married and had children. At the time of his enrollment he was single and had his mother Julia Hannah Cannon as next of kin. I can only assume therefore if he did marry it was after the war. Can any one point me in the right direction best regards Jane

Thanks for that Helen yes I managed to get his WW2 records some one kindly got them opened for me and I could view them digitaly and there was a 1 page document that they shipped to me. I had known he was a prisoner of war - family didn't talk too much about it but I was shocked how long he was in the camp.
