On offer is a 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, and Allied Victory medal presented to the next of kin of 1704 Private James Elliot Charlton of the 1st/ 9th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry who was killed in action on the 19th July 1918 aged 24. He was born at Felling-on-Tyne, enlisted at Gateshead and resided at Wardley Colliery, Co. Durham. He is remembered with honour at St. Imoges Churchyard, Marne. His medal index card states that he first went to France on the 20th April 1915 and also changed his serial number to 325099. |
