London Records Offices - a question???

Hi I have lots of family lines in the London area - Hackney, Hampton, Woolwich, City, Holborn - almost all over actually. I am a bit confused as I though that the Archives or Famliy Records Office would have copies of all the parish records for London! However, I think they dont and they are kept at seperate records offices for each area. Can anyone confirm this for me - is there anywhere in London I can get all the pre-1837 parish records in one place?? Much appreciate your help. Kate xx

I think the LMA (London Metropolitan Archives) would be your best bet. You can always contact them and ask if they cover the parishes you want: 40 Northampton Road London EC1R 0HB Tel: 020 7332 3820 Email: ask.lmaATcityoflondon.gov.uk (replace AT with the usual sign for at in an email address! Website address: http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporation/leisure_heritage/libraries_archives_museums_galleries/lma/lma.htm

The Family Records Office only holds the BMD indexes which start from 1837 onwards to present day. Parish registers start about the 1500s. Parish registers are normally held at County Record Offices. LMA is the 'County' Record Office for London. Cheers, Horatia

If only it wre that simple. City of London records are at the Guildhall Library, City of Westminster have their own records office and the remainder are at the LMA

I did say START at the LMA and ask them which records they have. If parish registers are wanted, most of them should be at LMA. Cheers, Horatia
