Hi Can anyone help me please. My ancestor John Bolam appears on the 1891 census with his family aged 37 but in 1901 I can't find him anywhere. I can find his wife Mary Jane and youngest son Roger but not John. Please help ! Thanks in advance, Marie.

I don't think so as the head of the household is Eleanor and I don't have any record of him having a sister called Eleanor. It depends which census you look on ! One has Walker, Newcastle, another Gateshead and another Durham !

The John that Georgina found is single and a stonemason - can't see a coal miner becoming a stonemason. Could he have gone into the army and been away in the Boer War? Probably unlikely for a coal miner I would have thought!! Kath. x
