tracking down Scottish birth

Good evening all. Anybody know how I find a birth record & order a birth certificate for Scotland? My 2x great-grandfather Joseph Matthews was born in Kirkoswald, Ayrshire, c1855 & obtaining his birth cert seems like the next logical step in the trail. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. |

Karen official records for scotland didn't start till 1855 so if he was born before then you wont get a birth certificate but his baptism should be on the old parish records on scotlands people. Georgina. |

Yikes! Have just been on the Penrith site & they want £24.95 for a birth cert. Are Scottish certificates usually this expensive? |

Hi Georgina, so with a birth c1855 he was born right on the cusp, so to speak. Why are all my ancestors so awkward? |
