Alice, If you haven't been to Dublin, just go on a 1p each way trip. Soak up the atmosphere, look at the famine statue and visit Kilmainham Jail - many of the starving commited a crime purely to get in there, because they got a meal! Have a drink on your ancestors whilst you're there and imagine you're walking in their footsteps. Jay

Hi Betty - no I haven't but will have a look - waiting for a birth certificate to see if I can find maiden name of Irish relative - Just wondering if it was worth a trip to Dublin in the Summer if i find it - would rather find info on internet if I can though! Alice

Thank you Teresa - Looks like the line ends there then! Could make one trip to Dublin perhaps but it looks as though it would be best if I shelved the parish look ups and sampled the beer instead....... which perhaps is proof enough of the irish blood in me... Good luck with your searches Alice

I wish I knew the answer to that too. I have my Gt Gt Grandfather's death certificate (from a second cousin in the States) and he was born c.1810 according to the certificate. He died in the Dublin Workhouse but we have no idea where he came from in Dublin. There are no Parish records available on line (apart from the IGI records) and the only way to trace somebody that far back would mean visiting/writing to the Parish Priest of every church in Dublin and requesting a search or viewing of the records. Perhaps we should all write to the Bishop of Dublin and ask if they would consider asking for volunteers to transcribe all the parish records and put them on to CDs to sell ..... with all profits going towards the repairs of the churches or to the needy of the Parish! They could make millions of €s as people all over the world would purchase them...I know I would. Teresa
