Army Regiment Marriages 17th Lancers?

Hi My ancestor Thomas Roberts was a Private in the 17th Lancers from 1831 to 1856. He married in Ireland in 1848 and when I asked for a BIVRI Lookup for the marriage the details said that Thomas had previously married. I read that Army soldiers had to get permission from the Colonels to wed. Would the lists of regimental marriages be at the TNA in Kew or elsewhere please? Thanks Ben

Although he may have sought permission, his marriage could be recorded in the normal GRO index if it took place in UK. Gwyn
