Hi Netty, Sorry I didn't reply to your earlier, and I do thank you for trying to find my Thomas Collins but I don't think the one you found could be him, my Thomas was born in 1841. I have been working on his date of birth from his marriage certificate in November 1866 he is aged 25. Working from this I think he was born in 1841 in County Monaghan in Ireland. By 1907 he would have been aged 66. Many, many thanks for trying to find him for me. Betty p.s. Netty someone else has also came up with this death for Thomas Collins, I am going to send for the Death Certificate anyway and see if it is him. Betty

Hello again Gwyn, Yes the family lived in the same area in all the census, Thomas Collins even married there in 1866 at St Mary's Chapel Blackhill lanchester County Durham. As his son used the same address when he married in 1915 I think the whole family must have still lived together up until Thomas Collins born 1841 died. Betty

Hi whats the freebmd can you advise

If they were probably at the same address for many years, it might be an idea to check the registers for the nearest appropriate church to see if a burial could be found. A cemetery check might be another possibility, as you know a likely area. Gwyn

Hi Gwyn, The Thomas Collins I am looking for was born in 1841 in Monaghan Ireland amd they always lived in Blackhill County Durham. His son also Thomas still has this address on his marriage certificate from 1915. It looks like I am going to have problems finding him then!! Betty

Well try the freebmd first - cos thats easier - name searchable - note all the possibles (they give age, so you can work out the likely ones) then use the complete index but itll be a long old trawl through each quarter of each year from 1901-1914? Go to ancestry, under the search box click on England and Wales bmd and then try the partial free bmd (which you can search by name) and then the complete bmd. To save some effort, if familyrelatives is working, pay to view, you can bring up every bloke with that name in that area for the whole period in one go. But are you sure he died in that area?

Hi Heather, I'm not sure about which one of these I am searching as I am just on this free 3 day thing with Ancestry. Can you just point me in the correct direction please. I just know he was in the 1901 census but was dead when his son married in 1915. Betty

So are you trawling the index images? There are a lot of possibles on freebmd - have you discounted all of those?
