Hi Gaynor 1st you need to open one of the files - so either yours or your mums Then you need to use the IMPORT function which is on the FILE tab on the top bar. Each person you have imported will be given a new unique number. So the original tree will now include both trees - but for the file you imported, No1 will now be the next number on from where the original tree finished. (e.g if you have 200 in your tree, the imported tree will start at 201) Next you need to go through the MATCH/MERGE process which is in the TOOLS menu. If you follow the on screen directions you should be ok. It gives you the option of which record you want to keep. So if you have 2 records the same but one has more info than the other, you choose to keep the one with the most info on it. Hope that all makes sense!! BUT make sure you have a back up copy of both files before you start - just in case you go wrong Good Luck Elly |

Before Mum died she was working on HER side of our family whilst I was working on my paternal side. Mum has over 1,000 names in her tree and I have about 800+ We had them saved on separate PAF files and for obvious reasons I was wondering if it is at all possible to merge these to files together. I already have some of Mum's names on my tree so it would need to delete any duplicates as it went along. Do you know if this possible please? Gaynor :-) |
