I am happy to do parish look-ups in my county for others, so you might post requests for specific counties - you could also offer to do your own county in exchange.

Thank you to all who replied. Sorry I didn't reply earlier but couldn't get an internet connectio until tonight? Will try family site and good idea to send for marriage certificate. Thanks guys Alex

If you have ancestors born after 1834 then surely you will have them marrying after 1837 - buying the marriage certficate would give you the father of bride and groom and move you a generation backwards. £7 from GRO online.

Parish Registers at County Record Offices. If you don't live near the record office in question, take a short break in the area. Genealogy Tourism is quite the thing nowadays! :-) Cheers, Horatia

Alexandra a good place to start is on the family search site, they have transcribed thousands of parish records but be careful there have been quite a few errors found in the records submitted by members, so it is best to use it as a guide. www.familysearch.org Georgina.

You need parish registers to find christenings before 1837. Try the IGI on www,familysearch.org....it isn't complete and you need to check the results. Heather

Hi there! So far I have only been able to trace relatives born after 1834 and would love to go back further. I only know about this site and Ancestry. both only seem to have records post 1834 or amI doing something wrong?
