Although the child born in 1913 has the right mother's maiden name, he might not be a sibling. We have found an instance of a really unusual surname matched with mother's maiden name of FINCH. It became apparent that there was not enough gap between births and although it was in the same registration district certificates proved that there were 2 women with the same maiden name and both now married to different men were having children around the same time. Use maiden name searches as a guide..... but don't presume that you have found siblings. Gwyn |

Hi Julie I am in a similar situation as you. My father had 9 other siblings (born between 1881 and 1900) that our family knew nothing about(my father being the youngest) and in the last year I have managed to track down nearly all of these families at not too great a cost. I first looked for the siblings marriage, then any children they had. At this stage I have not ordered any certificates. Then I look to see when the children married which is bringing us further forward. I then look for the death certificate of dad's sibling and their husband/wife (whichever is the later date) and order that certificate which will usually give you the informant's name and address (usually a son or daughter). I have had some really good results by using this method as I write to the person at that address. Some you get wonderful responses to and have met up with my new found cousins others are really not interested so do be prepared for that. Happy hunting |

you could try familyrelatives.org which is name searchable for 1866-1920 period. You could at least pick up those with mothers maiden name after 1911. |

You could try looking through parish records for baptisms in the place where your grandfather was born/baptised and see if you can find any other's baptised in the same place with same parents names. LDS Family History Centres will order parish records on microfilm for you for just a few pounds and they keep the film for about a month to give you time to look through it. Addresses of centres are on www.familysearch.org Kath. x |

Hi Julie, I have the same problem, my grandmother was firstborn child sept 1901, I know she had siblings between her birth and 1911, but like you cannot find them without a lot of expense. |

Hi I dont mean this to sound like yesterdays thread I put on here but I am trying to trace my grandfathers siblings I have 2 from 1901 census, grandad was born 1903 I done a search on ancestry last night using mothers maiden name and came up with a brother born 1913 theres a 10 year gap so there must be more I only have mother and fathers names to go by I have looked up all different first names and if the only way is to order them to see if parents match it will cost a fortune is there any other way of finding lost sibling I am thinking I will have to wait till next census released thanks |
