I uploaded my tree and shortly after received an email with an attachment which I saved. Whe I try to open the file iI receive a message saying Windows can't open it as it doesn't know what program created it. I am advised to down load an EXTnl file from another site and when I do I get a virus and have to do a system restore to get rid of it. apparently I need a .ged extension to allow me to open the file.

Maxwell. You need a family tree software program on your computer to view the .ged file also known as a gedcom. There are several free to download. The standard version available from www*legacyfamilytree*com replace * with . Sue

Maxwell As Sue said you need software that can read a gedcom file. There are a number of these programs on the market, many have free versions that although have some limited features will allow you to try out diiferent programs and decide what you like best. If you then want to have the full program you can buy it. I'll nudge the Free Genealogy/ family tree software thread. It has the web addresses for a number of the family tree programm down load sites.
