I am trying to get information regarding William Adolphus Polglass B 1856 St Austell Cornwall, who emigrated to Queensland before 1881. Can anyone tell me where to start looking. Thanks

Gina, found his burial details as follows; Name Sex Burial Date Age Polglass William Adolphus 19 / 08 / 1939 83 years Cemetery Details Cemetery: Toowong Cemetery Street Address: Cnr Frederick St and Mt Coot-tha Rd, Toowong UBD Ref: Map 158 N13 Portion 28 Section 79 Grave Number 3 I searched the Immigration online index for 1848 -1884 http://www(.)archives(.)qld(.)gov(.)au/research/index/immigration.asp#immigrationindexes but this only covers assisted immigrants, your William must have paid his own way. will do a bit more checking and see if I can come up with something Bye Helen Brisbane

Hi Tina, found his wife POLGLASS Florence Mary died 24th July 1939, aged 78 years, she is in the next plot to him Grave 4. Not sure but maybe this is their daughter POLGLASS Cora Zuill and her husband? Jackson Eric Stanford 07 / 01 / 1938 38 years Polglass Cora Zuill 10 / 08 / 1933 26 years Brisbane City Council records show that more than one individual is buried in this grave. Their details are shown above. Cemetery Details Cemetery: Toowong Cemetery Street Address: Cnr Frederick St and Mt Coot-tha Rd, Toowong UBD Ref: Map 158 N13 Portion 29 Section 30 Grave 22 Bye Helen

Helen Thank you so much for that, can you tell me where you found that information, so I can maybe find some more. I checked immigration and came up with the same thing, he must have paid his own passage, I know he married and had nine children, found what i assume to be two of them, in military records. Do they have census returns like UK in Australia, how do I find out who he married and his children, I am curious because I have been told two of his children were implicated in a murder, Spencer Polglass and Violet Polglass. Hi Tina, the website was http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/BCC:STANDARD::pc=PC_899 but I have already checked a-z forenames and the only 3 Polglass are the ones I have already given you. POLGLASS William Adolphus POLGLASS Florence Mary, his wife ,interred in the next grave to him POLGLASS Cora Zuill also by WW1 the family must have moved to Toowoomba. I found one of his sons Stanley Eric POLGLASS 19 years occupation jackaroo, William is listed as his next of kin and his residence is Hume Street Toowoomba. I also found another POLGLASS at the Toowoomba Cemetery ( the only one) as follows Name POLGLASS Thomas Frederick Age 36 Sex M Death/ Burial 12/07/1922 / 14/07/1922 Section CE Block 1 Allotment 5 will try to find out more for you bye helen

Thank you so much for that information Helen, really appreciate it, Dont care what you call me, ha ha can you look up marriage records here in Aus, or do you have to go to the history librarys. I cant seem to find anywhere, but then you have to know which state I suppose. Anyway going to work now, hope to catch you later, will check the message boards Thanks again Gina

Hi Gina, please send me a personal message with your email address. I have found quite a bit on your family and have found documentation (which I can send to you) confirming that Florence Mary is in fact Stanley Eric's mother so we definitely know she is William Adolphus wife buried at Toowong cemetary. I can also confirm that Stanley Eric was born on May 13th , 1899 in Toowoomba. bye for now Helen
