If you google 'workhouse 1881' you'll find census returns giving similar expressions, like idiot and imbersile. Sad really, but they were the words they used back then. Elly

Hi Can someone please help me decipher an entry on the 1881 census. The name is Charlotte Brett and she was born in Furneux Pelham, Hertfordshire. She is aged 42,unmarried and an inmate of the Bishops Stortford Work House. There is something written in the last column on the right but I cannot read what it says. Many thanks Lyndsey
