Can anyone tell me what a 'smd school' was in the 1890's. I have two young relatives whose father had died and in the 1891 census were in a smd school, in Surrey....Thanks, Brian

Thankyou Robin, exactly right. Your lead took me to workhouses.org.uk where there is a full discription of the SMD School in Sutton. I really appeciate your help, Brian
