Karen You could try tracking down the newspaper article, if you have an idea of the year he died - it would probably have been reported in his local paper, local to where his family lived, I mean. He wasn't from Lancashire, was he? OC |

Caroline, did he work at sea, do you know? From researching my story, I have learnt that it was known as 'the custom of the sea' for sailors to draw lots & eat the loser when they were stranded with no hope of rescue in the near future - it went on all the time, apparently. |

Hi Caroline, join the club! My nan always told me we were related to a certain Richard Parker, who was eaten by his crew members when the sailing yacht they were on was wrecked at sea & they were adrift in a lifeboat for weeks. What were the circumstances of your relative being eaten? It might help us to help you, as well as being of interest, of course! |

There is a story in my ancestry that my great uncle was eaten by cannibals! My mum swears that my grandad showed her a newspaper article of this. How do i find out if this is true and not just a very old joke that has been passed down the years? i know nothing about my great uncle apart from his name and his siblings names. I know a little bit of informaton about my grandad (his brother) but as yet havent discovered any information about their parents. Any kind of advice would be appreciated. caroline |
