Hi Kerry You never know unless you try it!! I thought Hot Matches were a waste of time UNTIL I found my missing link. I would say have a go + see what happens. Regards Ann

I am just wondering if putting family details, names and requests for information on the 'Trying to Find' board actually works?

Good Luck Kerry. It is a good idea put as many names as you can on your family tree incase THEY are trying to find you.

hi kerry....i`ve been on gr for 4 years.......as you can see by my username,i live in garston.......last summer..a member was looking for a relative of her husbands who if alive would have been in her 90`s.......and guess what.....her son, drinks in the same pub as me on a sunday....and 2/3 times a year he brings his mum for a drink........she only posted the name, but when she added garston,i was certain,i would know the family.......she passed on her phone number, which i passed on.....this woman had done her family tree back to early 1800`s......the old woman in her 90`s was absolutely overjoyed........as was the lady with the 'trying to find' request.....she presumed ,the old lady had passed on....they now phone each other regularly......so to answer your question,,,i would say...the more info you put on the thread, the better the chance of success.....only a slight chance...but at least a chance......and it made me feel good too to know they were both in touch......regards....allan

It is also a good to try to put some dates....even estimated ones. People on the boards trying to help can then see if it is worth looking on the censuses for information for you. If you just say my grandmother was.....nobody knows how old you are....you could be young and in your teens or one of the older, now computer literate, generation.
